Rapping: Means or alleged spirit communication during a séance that involves any knocking, thumping, bumping or tapping. It’s also prevalent in poltergeist haunting.
Residual Haunting. Term applied to haunting in which the ghost goes about the exact characteristic behaviour pattern without deviation. This is believed to be an imprint of ‘psi’ energies imprinted into the environment in an endless cycle. An intelligent haunting is where the ghost will respond intelligently.

Spectre: word that is thought to mean a ghost but is in fact used by investigators to describe a haunting which is proved to be fraudulent or explainable.
Spirit: A supernatural force of nature, discarnate entity or the animated physical bodies: sometimes referred to as the soul but not precisely the same as the soul.

Table-Tipping: Spiritualist technique in which psychokinetic effects, such as the table vibrating or tilting and turning, sometimes manifest when a group sits around a table with their hands placed lightly on it.
Trance: State between sleep and waking, when a person is half conscious and focusing on their internal thoughts and visions and is unaware of the world around them. This altered state of consciousness can occur spontaneously or be self induced (and self induced) by hypnosis, by shamans via sensory deprivation, by a medium during a séance, by hallucinogenic drugs, by meditation, and by rhythmic chanting, drumming or movement.

Vortex: A ghost-hunting term that is applied to photographic anomalies which display a spiral motion, and which is sometimes thought to be indicative of a spirit form. The term is also used to describe a portal between worlds or a sight that seemingly draws in energy towards its centre with a spiral motion.
